HOW THE SAMSUNG GALAXY MEGA 6.3 BEHAVES OPPOSITE THE SONY XPERIA Z?
The Sony Xperia Z is the latest flagship device from Sony and it's really one of the best that the Japanese firm has produced so far.The shape is fantastic with great style. It has a large screen Full HD 1080p and a lot of power produced by a quad core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon S4.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is a great smartphone with a 6.3 inch LCD screen and continues the aesthetic typical round of the Korean manufacturer. It has a fast dual-core processor and very competitive specifications for a mid-range.
SONY XPERIA Z: MAJOR CHARACTERISTICS
Sony's expertise in technology has not gone on the Xperia Z. LCD touch screen 5 inch Full HD resolution 1920x1080 at 440 pixels per inch (ppi). It provides incredibly sharp images on an equal footing with 5-inch 1080p models with densities similar pixels.
However, Sony has a trick or two up his sleeve with the Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 2 and OptiContrast technology. Both technologies mean that you will get rich, vibrant colors, excellent contrast and brightness, very pure whites and deep blacks.
We have not seen something similar elsewhere. When we had a Xperia Z in the office to test it, the general consensus was that it was almost like watching a 3D TV without glasses. Needless to say, the games, movies and TV shows are superb.
The screen is not the only one to give the impression of watching TV.The visual design is also consistent with the aesthetics of its other Sony electronics, especially televisions. The phone looks like a miniature TV and this is a good thing.
There are two halves of the top body and the bottom of the phone, while the bezel along the longer edges is very narrow and providing a clean uniform appearance.
The materials used are top notch and they have a nice feel in the hand, while the rear glass panel is a good thing. The corners are angled, as the overall shape of the device.
The processor is a strong element. The phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chip clocked at 1.5 GHz with 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 320 graphics processor (GPU).
It offers a fast, flexible and reliable performance on Android Jelly Bean with Sony overlay interface. It is more than capable of running all you can find on Google Play content.
Other features of the phone are reasonable. It has a 13 megapixel camera with Exmor RS backlit and LED flash, 1080p video capture and stabilization. A secondary camera of 2.2 megapixel 1080p is on the front. There are also 16 GB of onboard storage and a microSD slot for cards up to 64GB.
It offers a full range of connectivity options with both 3G and 4G capabilities, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, DLNA, Bluetooth, NFC, microUSB, GPS and MHL TV-out.
SAMSUNG GALAXY MEGA 6.3: KEY FEATURES
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 is not a flagship phone, but it's a mid-range well equipped with a 6.3 inch LCD screen with 1280x720 resolution to 233ppi. The visuals are bright, colourful and reasonably crisp, but the main advantage is its size, which makes it an ideal multimedia device.
Processing power is also very good because Samsung has opted for a dual-core Exynos 5250 processor based on the ARM Cortex-A15 configuration. This is the same processor as the Nexus 10. It is clocked at 1.7 GHz and has 1.5 GB of RAM and a Mali T604 GPU.
This dual-core processor is still incredibly fast and runs Android Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz interface.
The camera is competent, it is the same configuration as what we saw on the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 - a 8 Megapixels BSI with good characteristics of stabilization and LED flash. The front-facing camera is 1.9 megapixels.
There are options of 8GB or 16GB of on board storage with support for microSD cards up to 64GB. Connectivity includes Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi hotspot, 3G and 4G, Bluetooth, NFC, infrared, microUSB and GPS.
POINTS TO WATCH: THE PRACTICAL USE
Both phones are great, but the Xperia Z has a more manageable size. You still have the advantage of a large screen to play media but in addition, it is sharper, brighter and offers a better experience. Finally, it is much more manageable than his opponent.
In addition, the materials used on the Xperia Z are more comfortable to touch the sticky plastic Samsung. The design is much more pleasant to look at, in our opinion.
Xperia Z also has IP57 certification for resistance to water and dust. It is also waterproof up to one meter deep.
Processing power and performance should be more or less equal. Both phones run on Android Jelly Bean with all the advantages, the optimization and the stability of the interface, as well as access to a wide range of applications and content.
Although we do not yet know how the Samsung Galaxy 6.3 Mega cost, Samsung seem to make a model of mid-range and should therefore probably be cheaper than the Xperia Z.
Given this, it is nevertheless a interesting in many respects smartphone specifications are very competitive and has a large battery.
This is actually a key area, because the battery is an area where the Xperia Z is not up - it is not good, and this is the price to pay for an impressive display.
The display of the Galaxy Mega might not have the same visual quality, but it offers a proper multimedia experience and should last longer than the Xperia Z on a single charge.
CONCLUSION
Your choice will depend on the money that you are willing to spend and how you will use the device.
If you prefer to have a fantastic visual quality and do not mind you having to recharge the phone after watching a few movies, then the Xperia Z is a clear winner, especially if you also looking for a good phone with a high-end feel.
But if your budget is tight and you prefer to be able to consume more content with reduced quality (but still correct), then the Galaxy Mega 6.3 should be your choice here.
